Artist Overview

Laura Kaufman was fascinated with clay since early childhood.  She began her professional interest in ceramics in 1995 while working for Buckley’s of Georgia which made handmade ornaments for the retail gift trade. Her experience and talents in art influenced her to seek a formal education in residential interiors leading her to practice as an independent full-service interior designer for many years in GA and FL. She continued to practice pottery as a hobby and after relocating to WNC, Laura was inspired to reconnect with clay professionally.  Today she shares studio space with six other artisans within the Reems Creek Pottery Studio and Gallery located in Weaverville, N.C. “Mud is her muse” and mudHIGH Pottery was born out of a passion for the ceramics and the art community.

About

Many of Laura’s designs reflect nature in the landscape motifs, flowers, and animal forms she creates such as her woodland forest serving wares, whimsey mushroom sculptures, landscape wall sculpture and figurative ornaments. Her work continues to evolve both in the production pieces and custom requests which are available in local shops and through ETSY.
